Event Details

When: Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 10 AM (rain or shine)
Where: Icahn Stadium, Randall’s Island
What: Randall’s Island Sports Foundation’s Young Professionals Council will be hosting a certified 5K run/walk followed by races for children and a party.
Course: Start and finish will be within Icahn Stadium, which is a world class facility that meets International Amateur Athletic Federation specifications for accommodating local, national and international track and field events, including Olympic training and trials. The certified 5K course, which will have chip timing, will take runners/walkers outside Icahn Stadium along the island’s beautiful waterfront pathways and then return runner to the stadium where they can make a grand finish on the 400-meter Mondo surface running track with dramatic views of the East River and Manhattan skyline in the distance. See course map below. After the 5K, there will be races for children on the track.
Party: Stay for the post race party in Icahn Stadium! We will have a DJ cranking tunes to keep the mood lively, Greenport Harbor Brewing Company sharing their excellent craft beers, fresh baked chocolate chip cookies from Tate's Bakery Shop, Utz chips and other great treats.
Awards: Top 3 Male and Female Overall will receive an award and a cash prize.
1st Place $150 * 2nd Place $100 * 3rd Place $50
Awards will also be given to the top 3 male & female runners in the following age group categories: 18 & under; 19-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; and 60+.
Youth: Children's races begin at 11 AM. All kids that participate will receive an award. Age group categories include: 100 meters (4 years and under); 200 meters (5-6 year); 300 meters (7-8 years); 400 meters (9-10 years); and 400 meters (11-13 years).
T-Shirt: All 5K runners who pre-register will receive a t-shirt. Runners that register on the day of the event cannot be guaranteed a t-shirt.
Bag Check: A bag check will be provided for your convenience. Please bring an inexpensive bag and do not bring valuables to the event as RISF cannot be responsible for lost or stolen items.
Rules: For the safety of all participants no skates, strollers or pets are permitted in the race.
Refunds: No refunds shall be given to participants who do not attend the event.
Sign-in: Runner/walker sign-in and race packet pick up will open at 8:30 AM at Icahn Stadium. Day-of registration will also be available until 9:45 AM; however, t-shirts cannot be guaranteed for day-of registrants.

Run the River 5K is almost here and we are excited that you have decided to join us! Please find below some useful information for race day.

Race Packet-Pick Up/Sign-In – Opens at 8:30 AM in Icahn Stadium on the 2nd floor concourse.

Day-of Race Registration - Day-of race registration shall be available from 8 - 9:45 AM. T-shirts cannot be guaranteed for day-of registrants. Cash and credit cards accepted.

Running surface - The course will start and finish on a Mondo Super X track surface and will follow pathways along the island's water front, which are constructed of both asphalt and gravel.

Water Stops - Water stops will be available at roughly the 1.5 mile point on the course and in the finish line area. Water and other drinks will also be available at the post-race party.

Bib Number and D-Tags - Bib numbers should be attached to the front of the shirt you plan to run in with safety pins on all four corners. D-Tags should be connected to your shoe laces – no exceptions.

Bathroom – Bathrooms are located on the 2nd floor of Icahn Stadium as well as outside on the North East corner of the stadium.

Bag Check - Bag check will be available for all runners starting at 8:30 AM on the North side of the stadium's 2nd floor concourse. Please do not bring valuables. RISF cannot be responsible for lost or stolen items.

Results - Results will be posted on the 2nd floor concourse at the conclusion of the race.

Children’s Race – The children’s race will commence at 11 AM.

Awards - All awards will be rewarded during the post race party on the 2nd floor concourse.

Weather – According to Yahoo Weather, Saturday is suppose to be 62 degrees and sunny! J
Join us for a Randall’s Island Sports Foundation’s Pre-Race Happy Hour on Thursday, October 14th at 6:30pm at Dylan Murphy’s! Sign up for Run the River 5K and partake in BELVEDERE and BEERS on us! Belvedere will be showing their support by pouring free Belvedere and Beers (while supplies last). Please feel free to invite friends and fellow runners to support our cause and get fired up in advance of our October 23rd 5K on the island. Enter our raffle for the chance to win a JackRabbit gift card or a bottle of Belvedere as well.

Release & Waiver - You accept that running/walking in the Run the River 5K is a potentially hazardous activity. You should not enter and run/walk unless you are medically able and properly trained. You assume all risks associated with running in the Run the River 5K, including, but not limited to, falls, contact with other participants, the effect of weather, including heat and humidity, traffic conditions on the road, as such risks being known and appreciated by you. Having read this waiver and knowing these facts, by registering for the Run the River 5K, you, for yourself and anyone you are entitled to act upon/register for, waive and release the Run the River 5K, Randall's Island Sports Foundation, Inc., the City of New York, and Department of Parks and Recreation and all sponsors, their representatives and successors from all claims or liaiblity of any kind arising out of your participation in this event even though that liaibility may arise out of negligence or carelessness on the part of the persons named in this waiver.
